Most museums keep more than eighty percent of their collections in storage. Many of the stored objects almost never see the light of day. Yet, these objects are often invaluable for future generations. Safe storage systems are therefore crucially important for museums.
The storage specialist for museums
The design of museum depositories is a real specialism at Magista. More than three-quarters of our business involves the design or redesign of museum depositories. So it is safe to say that Magista is the specialist in museum storage. Over the years, we have gained a wealth of experience in storing very diverse objects, each with its own storage requirements. For example, we have sophisticated storage solutions for:
- Textiles (hanging, horizontal, on rolls)
- Church banners up to 10 metres long
- Maritime collections
- Water-based collections
- Organic and inanimate objects
- Rocks and archaeological finds
- Paintings
- Maps, prints and drawings
- Furniture
A safe place for your collection
Museums set high standards for their storage systems. Magista works closely together with advisers and experts in the field to create safe storage solutions. For example, we subject our materials to the Oddy test to be sure that there are no emissions of harmful substances. We also check the acidity of the paints we use and we pay special attention to the finishing.
Storage of paintings
Magista has designed a special painting frame system for the storage of costly and fragile paintings. Not only do the painting frames store paintings safely – they are also extremely practical to use. The free-standing frame is independent of the building in which is it installed. When storing paintings in the frames and removing them, your employees have plenty of free space so there is very little risk of damage. Like all of Magista’s products, the painting frames are made to order and can always be adapted to your specific needs.
